ABDC Season 5 Episode 4 Master Mixes
Chart Topper Challenge
9 banners were lifted as the national finals began and by the end of the night Swagger Crew were the first to watch their banner fall.
On the bright side… behold the return of “Master Mix Stories!”
Blueprint Cru
This features the Ting Ting’s “That’s Not My Name”. This is a fun song that is popular especially in the dance community and we knew we did a good job when Nathalie from the crew stopped us at dinner during the taping and gave us props for the mix.

Jungle Boogie
“How Low” by Ludacris is one of our favorite songs out now and gives you so many parts to include in a master mix. When we first met with Jungle Boogie a couple weeks ago they had phrases that they wanted us to include in their mixes to buck and juke to. One of them was “Get Some” and we thought it would be a good way to start the mix. The other thing about doing a mix for this crew is to try to integrate the animal themes and this time we went for the big cat theme. We figured that animal definitely gets low so it worked. They wanted to have a section to african dance to so we included a tribal section at the end to really give them a big finish.

Royal Flush
We saw Jay Sean perform “Down” at this years Power 106 FM holiday concert called “Cali Christmas” and he really surprised us. Not only does he have a great voice, but he can beatbox too! Also, he says “blokes” – cause he’s British, which is charming. Also it makes him sound really smart. Also surprising was this week’s performance by Royal Flush. After a tepid review from the judges last week, they really brought it up a level this week.

Saltare
While walking up to the studio entrance this week, sixxxHole saw someone walking to the stage alongside him with a sign that read “Mansplits all day”. Turns out, after Billy from Saltare’s stunning mansplits (in the immortal words of JC Chasez) in their regional episode, he’s caused enough buzz on the web to earn him an official mansplits fan page on facebook. Better yet was the reveal that the person carrying the sign was Billy’s sister! Anyway, no man splits this week, but Saltare still killed it to a crazy mix of Pibull’s “Hotel Room Service” which wasn’t their original mix but this song worked really well for them and surprisingly lends itself to what they do. Although at the last minute, MTV standards and practices informed us that the word “gushy” wasn’t acceptable for air. Not sure why, but nonetheless, we had to change the words to “that nasty, that nasty stuff” instead.

Static Noyze
This was a really fun one to make because while we like the original version of”Whatcha Say” by Jason DeRulo, we got to really dive into our more theatrical side with a nice piano breakdown in the middle. They were so happy with it that they stopped us before the show to thank us. No shablams this week, unfortunately, but they more than made up for it with a really pretty piece that told a whole story in just 55 seconds.

Swagger Crew
We were excited to do this mix this week. It reminded us of working with the guys from Red Zone, when we did the J.Lo mix for the AMA’s. We actually got to hear the original version of the beat with the Dream singing what would become Rihanna’s part. Always fun seeing the process come together. Shout out to Tricky, Urbo, Kuk, Wuepper and everyone else over at Red Zone.

Poreotix
You never know quite what you’re going to get with Poreotix. Since they were performing to “Day N Night” by Kid Cudi this week, we decided to go with a sleepytime theme, complete with the sounds of alarm clocks, snoring and, of course a woodland owl. Well, we’re not sure it’s a “woodland” owl, but it is definitely an owl of some sort – you’d have to consult with an ornithologist to get confirmation on that. Anyway – they were dope.

Hype 5-0
This was not the song that we did a mix for them originally but turned out to be a good fit. “Imma Be” by BEP is a dope song but has a tempo change in the middle which made it a little more challenging than the other mixes this week. When we found out that the end of the routine would include some crew members diving in the ocean, we were excited to put in some “island feel” at the end. You might not catch it at first but upon second or third listening you will notice the ukuleles and lap steel with cocoanut percussion to give them a distinct ending.

Heavy Impact
As soon as we heard that this crew got “Say Ahhh” by Trey Songz Featuring Fabolous we knew it was going to be a good routine. We were happy to get in some of Fabo’s verse which was hard when the mixes this week could only be :55 sec long. This mix got some extra sexy D78 treatment and the guys did not disappoint with their dance. Small blocks forever!

Battle Mix
The Battle Mixes are usually a pretty tough nut to crack but Ke$ha’s “TikTok” ended up being a good fit for the crews to battle it out to. This was not the original song slated for the battle and after doing several mixes of this battle with a whole different song, we switched gears because of the popularity of this club anthem. Considering the episode is labeled the “Chart Topper Challenge” it seemed more fitting than the Lil Jon song originally selected. We really enjoyed one of the first versions we did of this mix where she goes “Wake up in the Morning feelin’ like” then gets interrupted by “Round One”.

Woah your remixes are soo COOL! Specially the ones you did for Poreotics! Cool \m/
i’m having a hard time downloading the songs! please help! my step team is doing a dance to the How Low jungle boogie version! Everytime i click on the link, it says its not available in iTunes!
Paul, we’d appreciate you not doing that as posting our mixes on youtube (or any other site) isn’t really “personal use.” (…and we don’t wanna get in any legal hot water.) However, feel free to link back to our site if you wanna share our stuff.
so you guys dont mind if we ended up finding a way to upload your music into youtube as long as we give you guys credit? lol i was reading your F.A.Q. section, just wanted to make shure kuz i found a way.
where can I find the mastermix to download, I absolutely love the tik tok mastermix but can’t find it anywhere
Big props you guys make some amazing mixes.
Jose – You can buy Taze from amazon.com and rhapsody.com as well as iTunes.
I did ask the music supervisor about the cue that hits when someone is eliminated and she didn’t know the answer. The best we can assume is that the show prefers to emphasize the positive over the negative. Sorry – hope that helps!
Hey D78 where can I buy Taze elsewhere from Itunes?
P.S did you ask MTV if they’ll put back the looser track?
also thank god they put back the free voting by phone, that was so annoying last season
how it was by text only or by online.
Battle songs and battle teams are always interesting … ^^ and the Hotel Room Service mix is nice!!!
i dont think thats actually kesha, but The mixes are AWESOME! My favorite one was The Battle Mix and Hype 5-0.
Thank You District 78 mixing my song, “TiK Tok”, for America’s Best Dance Crew!
Where can I download these. These tracks are fire
in all honesty, you guys should make full mixes of most, if not all, of these songs…they would hit top charts instantly.
Are you guys gonna bring back the scrapped mixes for free download?
Hooray for Mansplits All Day! Fun to meet you guys – I have faith you’ll make a sick mix for Saltare when the make it to the finale!
by any chance was the Lil Jon song originally selected for the battle mix called “Give It All You Got”?
You should have kept the stupid Hawaiian ending out of Hype’s mix, I wanted to dance to it until I heard that part.
And you guys should do the “Free Master Mixes” like you use to! So we can hear the work you did but it got changed. I’d love to hear the other battle mixes, and crew mixes to
Yo, these mixes keep getting sicker! I though Power96 overplayed Tik Tok but you guys just made it a better song xD
I’ve been waiting for last night’s episode SO BADLY!
First off, you guys ACTUALLY made “Tik Tok” sound like a good song, which I thought was impossible! Big props on that! It’s officially not annoying to me anymore!
I love all these mixes! Especially Poreotix, Jungle Boogie, Swagger Crew, Blueprint Cru, Static Noyze, the battle track… I probably should’ve just said “All of them!” Lol!
you guys should put up saltare’s love drunk mix if you have it ,i’d love to hear it lmao
TIK TOK!!!!!!!! YES!!!!!!!!
AHH! I love reading the stories! And this weeks tracks were pretty cool! What was the original battle song? And hype 5-0?
